No walking today

December 14, 2007

I was up late last night as well as the night before…just not enough sleep, plus I lost my walking partner.  Hannah is not quite ready to get up at 5 am everyday and walk.  Considering her normal routine is to wake around 7:30-8:00, the jump to 5 ended up being too stressful on her emotional stability.

Well, I have just enough to whine about today but would rather not.  I despise whiners.

For those interested in hiking and back country camping, I have setup a wetpaint site for this very focus in the Virginia area.  It is still being developed, but there is a little bit of structure to it.

Out of shape

December 9, 2007

When a good friend approached me 2 weeks ago to see if I wanted to join him for a 20 mile back country hiking weekend, I was excited. I realized quickly that I am not physically prepared for that type of exercise and need to get into shape if I plan to go with him this coming Spring.

So, to date I have managed to go for a quick 1 mile walk at least 3 times over the past week. I do it at 5:00 am right after I wake since it provides the most solitude for my walk. I have enjoyed learning a bit more about my neighborhood (in the dark) and today began the process of praying for my neighbors. Makes me wish someone had asked me to trek 20 miles in the mountains earlier. ;)

Is accountability lost in America?

November 26, 2007

I have been studying accountability for the past few weeks and find myself becoming increasingly aware of the lack thereof in America.  I realize that I am limited by my rather limited perspective and invite comments to the contrary, but it seems to me that I find the promotion of knowledge everywhere with limited if any emphasis given to accountability for the knowledge gained.

Mostly I find individuality, anonymity, and autonomous the thought process of the day in America.

Good Friends

September 29, 2007

Kent, Bonnie, and Eden Gravely came over for dinner tonight.  They are such good friends, which was evident by the way we were able to connect at intimate levels with each other despite the fact it’s been over a year since either of us has visited the other.  It’s the type of friendship that you can easily see lasting well into the next several decades without any difficulty.  I thank God for blessing us with the relationship and hope that we will continue to be good stewards of it.
